Maximus goes from being the most powerful general in the Roman army to a gladiatorial slave. He does not give up, nor does he complain. He makes the best of the situation and uses his abilities to focus on getting revenge for the death of his family. He is successful in the end because he made the best out of every opportunity presented to him. Just like the photo below, Maximus was given the opportunity to destroy the man who made the demand to kill his family. Maximus did not fail because he was so focused on his goal.

Maximus loves his family and he loves his country. Throughout the movie, he shows his loyalty and leadership and his passion only enhances his ability to achieve his goals or revenge. Great leaders have passion and a defining mission. Maximus lived a life of honor and meaning. To borrow his famous words: “Brothers, what we do in life echoes in eternity.”
